Winter might still be hanging on, but things are heating up at the Vermont Farmers Market! Our winter market continues every Saturday from 10 AM – 2 PM at 251 West St. in Rutland through May 3rd, before we transition outdoors to Depot Park starting May 10th (9 AM – 2 PM).
We recently had an incredible time at Rutland’s WinterFest, where we hosted a food tour around the world, bringing together flavors from different cultures, live performances, and artisan displays. It was a delicious and educational experience for all! And let’s not forget the Baby Bigfoot and Yeti sightings—a fun surprise for visitors of all ages!
But the fun doesn’t stop there! We’ve got exciting activities for kids and families, contests, and special events lined up in the coming months. Here’s what’s happening at the market:
Winter Market Fun for Kids
We love creating a welcoming and fun atmosphere for our youngest market-goers! Here are a few ongoing activities designed just for them:
✅ Veggie Scavenger Hunt – Each Saturday, we hide plush veggies (corn, red bell pepper, eggplant, carrot, and broccoli) with different vendors around the market. There’s no prize—just the joy of searching and discovering!
✅ Monthly Coloring Page Raffle – Kids can color a page at the market and hang it on the wall behind the kids’ table near the bathrooms. At the end of each month, a random coloring page is chosen, and the artist wins a free item from a local vendor!
- March’s prize: A free hot dog from A Crooked Barn Charcuterie
- April’s prize: Free maple candy from Brown’s Family Farm Sugarhouse
Special Events – Mark Your Calendars!
March 15th – St. Patrick’s Day Craft for Kids
Stop by the kids’ table for a festive craft to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!
April 19th – Egg Scavenger Hunt
Join us for a fun market-wide scavenger hunt where kids can search for hidden eggs while families shop for fresh produce, baked goods, and more!
May 3rd – Last Indoor Market & Plant Giveaway
As we wrap up the winter market season, we’ll be giving away plants to celebrate the arrival of spring! This is a great way to get a jumpstart on your garden while shopping for your favorite market finds.
May 10th – Outdoor Market Season Begins!
The wait is over! The Vermont Farmers Market moves outdoors to Depot Park in downtown Rutland from 9 AM – 2 PM every Saturday. Join us for fresh produce, local meats, artisan goods, prepared foods, live music, and more!
T-Shirt Design Contest – We Need Your Submissions!
We’ve had a lot of interest in our T-shirt design contest, but we need more submissions! This is a fantastic opportunity for local artists and designers to have their work featured on an official Vermont Farmers Market T-shirt. If you’ve been thinking about entering—now’s the time! Send your design to VFMRutland@gmail.com
